Note: Encaustic painting is the use of hot wax and pigments to create layers of translucent color. Encaustic literally means "burning in", as you have to fuse each layer of wax to the previous layer with the use of a heat source. Each painting is created using multiple layers of wax and sometimes other materials.
ABOUT ME
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I believe in painting from the heart. I want my paintings to serve as a language to communicate desire, beauty, and my sense of the world around me. I choose to work primarily with the human figure as my subject. The human form is one of the most expressive subjects to paint. Figure painting offers the viewer the possibility to intimately interact with the work by creating a link to his or her own complicated past experiences and emotions. I also enjoy the simple beauty portrayed by the form of the human figure, and aim to create art that both speaks of this beauty and conveys a sense of place for the figure in contemporary art.
There is also something very therapeutic about creating art, and I continue to use my art for this purpose as I learn to help others to do the same. I am currenty working towards my master's in Art Therapy Counseling at Marylhurst University.
